THOUGHTS
#AD – SAMPLES GIFTED BY THE BRAND
Clubs of Iris is probably favorite Regalien out of those that I’ve tested (alongside the 2023 release Dem).
This is for real iris lovers, but I think for the type of iris scent that it is, it’s surprisingly unisex (not feminine leaning as some other iris may be perceived). One of the better iris-centric scents with this much ‘gravitas’ (most other more heavier or masculine-leaning irises lose the iris in woods or sweetness). Here, it grows leathery.
So, very much a focus on iris here, but it’s heavily towards the rooty side with vetiver pushing through as well. Earthy roots, spicy, small hints of carrot throughout. Almost more on the cooked carrots side than the fresh crisp ones.
To my nose the brighter top notes are subdued or fading instantly (I do get some raspberry, but shortly). Instead this goes earthy, woody. As mentioned, I even get leathery nuances quite strongly. It is floral, in a retro way (carnation often gives me that feeling). I think that is also the sort of rubbery touch that gives off the leather vibe.
Iris is my favorite note and I often find a measure of opulence and regality in it. Here, it’s presented in a seemingly different way. A ‘working man’s’ iris of sorts, with the hands and leather boots literally in the dirt. Yet, the florals and small nuances still make this feel rich. It may be Clubs of iris, but it is a diamond in the rough (I’ll see myself out). Actually, Regalien has a Diamond of Velvet, which name would also suit Clubs of Iris well.
